Root Canal Treatment

Relieve Pain. Save Your Tooth. Restore Your Smile.
When a tooth becomes infected or severely inflamed, the pain can be intense and unrelenting. At Quality Dental Care, we offer Root Canal Treatment (RCT) to relieve discomfort, eliminate infection, and help you preserve your natural tooth—without the need for extraction.
Thanks to modern techniques and anaesthetics, root canal therapy is a safe, effective, and surprisingly comfortable procedure that can give you lasting relief and restore your tooth’s function and strength.
Signs You May Need a Root Canal
Infection inside a tooth often results in symptoms that are difficult to ignore. You may need root canal treatment if you’re experiencing:
- Sharp pain when biting or chewing
- Lingering pain after eating or drinking hot or cold foods
- Throbbing or constant toothache
- Pain that radiates to your jaw, ear, or head
- Swelling, tenderness, or a pimple-like bump on the gums
These are signs that the nerve or pulp inside the tooth has become infected, inflamed, or necrotic (dead). If left untreated, the infection can spread to surrounding tissues, causing further damage and increasing the risk of tooth loss.
What Is Root Canal Treatment?
Root Canal Treatment is the name given to a series of appointments designed to sterilise and seal the canal in which the nerve runs. The goal is to eliminate infection, remove the damaged nerve tissue, and preserve the tooth structure.
Despite its reputation, root canal treatment is not painful. In fact, the procedure is specifically designed to relieve the pain caused by infection.

How the Procedure Works
- Diagnosis and X-rays: We begin with a thorough examination and take detailed X-rays to assess the extent of the infection and determine the shape of the root canals.
- Local Anaesthesia: The tooth and surrounding area are completely numbed to ensure a pain-free experience.
- Access and Cleaning: A small opening is made in the tooth to access the pulp chamber. The infected or dead nerve tissue is carefully removed, and the canals are cleaned, shaped, and disinfected to eliminate all bacteria.
- Sealing the Canals: Once clean, the canals are filled and sealed with a biocompatible material to prevent reinfection.
- Final Restoration: To complete the treatment, we usually recommend placing a Porcelain (CEREC) Restoration or Crown on the tooth. This provides strength, protects the remaining structure, and restores full function.
Why a Crown Is Often Needed
After root canal treatment, the tooth is no longer vital (it no longer has a nerve), which means it’s more prone to becoming brittle over time. To prevent fracture and extend the life of the tooth, we typically recommend:
- A Porcelain Crown or CEREC Restoration, made using precise digital technology
- A strong, aesthetic solution that holds the tooth together and restores its appearance
At Quality Dental Care, we provide same-day CEREC restorations with our on-site lab, so your final restoration can often be completed in just one visit.
Benefits of Root Canal Treatment

- Preserves your natural tooth structure
- Prevents further spread of infection
- Restores function so you can chew and speak normally
- A cost-effective alternative to extraction and replacement

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel any pain during treatment. Most patients report that it feels no different than having a filling done.
Root canal treatment typically takes 1 to 2 visits, depending on the complexity of the infection. We’ll let you know what to expect during your consultation.
While extraction is sometimes necessary, saving your natural tooth is almost always preferable. Root canal treatment allows you to maintain your bite, prevent shifting teeth, and avoid needing a replacement like an implant or bridge.
Yes, in most cases. A crown or porcelain restoration is strongly recommended to protect and reinforce the tooth, preventing fractures and restoring normal function.
With proper care and a protective crown, a root canal-treated tooth can last many years—even decades. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are key.
Delaying treatment can allow the infection to spread, leading to abscess formation, bone loss, or even systemic health issues. It’s always best to act early and preserve your dental health.
